Do I usually have to file Medicare claims myself?
Usually not. The law requires doctors, providers, and suppliers to file covered Original Medicare claims. Pharmacies and in-network providers usually submit claims to your Part D or Medicare Advantage plan. In limited situations, a person with Original Medicare may need to use the current CMS-1490S process.
How can I check the status of a Medicare claim?
For Original Medicare, check your secure Medicare account or your Medicare Summary Notice. If you have Medicare Advantage or Part D, use your plan's claim information and contact the plan for the most current status.
What is a Medicare Summary Notice?
A Medicare Summary Notice, or MSN, is not a bill. It shows the Original Medicare Part A and Part B services or supplies billed during the covered period, what Medicare paid, and the maximum amount you may owe.
